Iconofile eJournal Submission Guidelines
The Iconofile eJournal is devoted to disseminating information on traditional, experimental, theoretical or philosophical practices, including research and historical work in areas related to icons and iconography. Scholars, researchers and artists are invited to submit their original work.
Editorial Guide
Topics in Iconofile will contain four to five articles each issue with about 500 to 1000 words each and two or three sections of an 350-500 words. The general topics of the articles each month will be:
Features
Icons, Icon Painters and Icon Schools
Articles about specific icons, icon painters, schools and collections of icons. These features may also include articles on architectural ensembles that feature wall painting, sculpture and other sacred art.
Materials and Techniques
Tips, advise and demonstrations on using artist's materials and techniques. This area also include historical research on icons, wall paintings and other sacred visual art.
Theology and Art
Discussions of theology as it relates to icons.
Iconography
Subject matter in icons, especially with reference to the conventions regarding the treatment of a subject in artistic representation. Study or analysis of subject matter and its meaning in the visual art of icons.
Icons and Art
On the relationship between sacred art and secular art.

Reviews of books, videos, multimedia, workshops and exhibits.

A calendar of exhibits, workshops, seminars and lectures and other iconographic events.
Submission Guidelines
Language
The language of publication is English. Contributors may submit articles only in English at this time. In the future, articles will be accepted in Russian.
Length
Usually 500 to 1000 words for an article, survey or report, and 500-750 words for a book review.
Abstract
Each article should begin with an abstract to a maximum of 100 words.
Authors
Please provide your full name and address for correspondence (including e-mail). We will also publish a brief biography of the author, so please submit a biography in 50 words or less.
Material Format and Submission
Materials should be submitted as either plain text, or preferably as a Microsoft Word document. Images should be submitted in either JPG, PNG, BMP (bitmap) or TIF file formats. Manuscripts, including abstract, references and biography, should be submitted to: editor@iconofile.com.
Copyrights
Contributors are responsible in obtaining all necessary permission and must have paid any fees for the use of copyright materials.
Review of Manuscripts
The Editorial Board and/or external reviewers with special competence in the area (reviewers will not be made known) will review papers. After the review process, contributors will be informed whether the article is accepted or rejected for publication, or may be returned for amendment. The chief editor reserves the right to make alterations where necessary to accepted manuscripts.
