• Traditionally cut and relieved
• Recessed area, “kovcheg” (Russian for ark), on the front surface of the board carved 2 to 5 mm deep
• Gessoed (ready to paint) with cotton linen and several layers of original Russian recipe levcas
• Solid oak braces inserted in grooves cut into the back of each board across the wood grain, to minimize board deformation and warping
