Icon Studio Verdonk

Mother of God Amiandos by icon-painter Jan Verdonk
Mother of God Amiandos by icon-painter Jan Verdonk

We organise regular classes in icon painting in the Greek style in the Netherlands. Every year we hold also a 15-days workshop in Epidavros on the Peloponnese in Greece. Being a theologian, Jan Verdonk followed his vocation through the creation of icons along the orthodox church's age-old tradition. For years he has been involved in teaching by means of publishing articles, giving lectures, radio interviews and workshops, both in his own atelier as well as at different locations; at home and abroad. In the teaching of painting much attention goes to: 1. Colour theory for icon painters 2. Mixing colours in practice 3. Properties of the paint. Beginners and advanced students work side by side and are supervised individually.
