Ilian Rachov Contemporary Icons

Ilian Rachov starts his artistic carrier in 1988. At first he realizes copies of medieval orthodox icons and frescos. He re-discovers ancient fogotten techniques for the engraving of golden icons. He realizes his own personal style in the iconography field with a unique color technique and perfect engravings. This makes him popular also outside the Bulgarian borders, upbringing many estimators and followers. In 1996 he receives the decoration, according to which, "The icons painted by Ilian Rachov show an esthetic and wealthy effect". In 1997 he confers the prize "Golden phenomenon of Bulgaria" for his contribute to the figurative arts. Some of Ilian`s icons are properties of many churches and museums: The Monastery of Saint Mina in Sofia, The Historical Museum of Chiprovzi, The Saint George Church in Sofia, The Rila Monastery, The Aula Magna of the International Institude d.Bosco at Turin-Italy, But also of private collections in Rome, at the Vatican, in Palermo, Naples, Milan, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, Strasbourg, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, London, Madrid, Barcelona, Caracas, Tokyo, Moskow, Vienna… Ilian has participated in demonstrations of the iconographic technique in 12 expositions in Hamburg - Germany - realized thanks to the Consul of honor of Bulgaria - Mr. Doc. Imeyer and the Bulgarian-German Association. His portraits and his paintings, inspired by the great masters of Renaissance, belong to numerous accredited diplomats in Bulgaria. In 1999 he makes the portrait of the wife of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria - Mrs. Antonina Stojanova. In 2000 he realized one round painting representing the Holy Lamb of God for the ceiling of the church of the Vatican Embassy in Sofia-Bulgaria. In 2001 he paints the first icon of St.Giovanni Bosco in bizantine style for the church of the salesian's order in Turin-Italy.He makes also one big painting represents St.Giovanni Bosco,don Rinaldi and Gesus for the Aula Magna of the International Institude "D.Bosco" in Turin. In 2002 he makes a big wall painting of the altar wall in the salesian's church in Crocetta-Turin.This fresco represents the Holy Trinity. In 2003 he paints numerous icons and oil paintings for many privat customers and istitutions. This year he relised also his first designer progects for VERSACE Home Collection.
