Hi, and welcome to the atelier of Monica Russeva.
I paint Orthodox icons in the traditional Byzantine style, for affordable prices, but in exceptionally high quality.
All my Icons are hand painted in egg tempera and 23K gold leaf on gessoed wood panel, following Orthodox Christian traditions of almost 2000 years. I make the drawings on a separate paper and then I transfer the finished sketch to the gessoed panel. Egg tempera is very time consuming. I like to paint on beautiful wood carefully finished and, if possible, antique. Finally I varnish the painting to protect it against scratches and treat the back of the icon with antique wax.
I have studied 5 years for an MA in Iconography at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at Veliko Tarnovo University, Bulgaria. My icons have been exhibited at the Veliko Tarnovo Art Centre, Various galleries on Samovodska Charshia, VTU û Theological Faculty and at The Diakonia High School, Aarhus, Denmark. Two Bulgarian churches have their patron saint icon painted by me. Also I am pleased to have icons in private collections in England and Denmark.
